Boca Grande News for the Week (5/20 - 6/4) 2010

Presenting the Boca Grande and Gasparilla Island News for May 20 to June 4, 2010:

Let’s start this Newsletter with an update on the oil spill. There is NO oil here now.

On Monday, a class of 24 (the maximum allowed) completed a 4-hour training session to be a part of the clean-up efforts should the oil come here. Plans are in the works for another class (at a cost of $1,000 per class). This class is mandatory to be a part of the clean-up crew.

There will be an informational community meeting this afternoon at 4:00. This meeting will discuss the current position of oil in the Gulf, as well as community contingency plans.
The website,, has a massive amount of information that I cannot attempt to cover here. I recommend that you view this site for its frequent updates on the disaster.

As of today, we have had two rental cancellations naming the oil spill as reason to not come here. I want to emphasize that there is no oil here now, and I encourage you to call and discuss your travel plans with our rental department.

Have you considered Don Pedro Island? The island has only 10 Gulf-front lots and is mainly a State Park. Using the Palm Island ferry, you can only access Don Pedro by golf cart because there are no wide roads through the Park. Boat access is also an option.
I have a Gulf-front lot with 100 beachfront feet available for a limited time for only $675,000. Similar lots are on the market for over a million. Call me for an aerial photo and comparable property information.
